Espace Mélanie Freiha

Inspired by Mélanie's commitment to youth and nature, the Jesuit community and Collège Notre Dame de Jamhour dedicated a 140,500 m² space in the hills of Hammana: "Espace Mélanie Freiha" to honor her spirit. This space was designed to foster scouting, sports, and spiritual activities, serving both as a living memorial for those who knew Mélanie and as a testament to her character and commitments for those who never met her.

Since its creation, Espace Mélanie Freiha has become a hub for youth empowerment and engagement, such as scout camps and plantation activities. Among some key accomplishments are the construction of a protective 2km linear fence around the hill, the planting of cedar trees to preserve Lebanon's heritage, and building “La Chapelle Notre-Dame des Cimes” at the summit—a spiritual beacon with panoramic 360° views, providing a serene space for reflection and connection.

Always focused on youth, the ‘Mélanie Freiha Land Development Project’ was entrusted to fourth-year architecture students at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA). This initiative brought together 50 students, guided by six professors over eight months of dedicated work. Three winners were selected for the project and awarded a cash prize to support their educational scholarship.
